A mommy makeover is not one fixed operation. It is an individualized plan addressing selected breast and abdominal changes after pregnancy, breastfeeding and weight change.

What the assessment considers

  • Breast volume, ptosis and asymmetry
  • Abdominal skin excess, muscle separation and scars
  • Localised fat distribution and overall health
  • Future pregnancy plans, childcare and recovery support

How the plan may be built

  • The plan may include breast lift, augmentation or reduction
  • Abdominoplasty and selective liposuction may be considered
  • Not every requested procedure should necessarily be combined
  • Timing is usually considered after breastfeeding and weight have stabilised

Not one fixed operation

Mommy makeover is a planning term for selected breast and abdominal procedures after pregnancy. It may include breast lift, augmentation or reduction, abdominoplasty, repair of abdominal-muscle separation and limited liposuction. A patient does not need every component.

When combining procedures may not be appropriate

Long operating time, high BMI, anaemia, smoking or nicotine use, uncontrolled disease, clotting risk, poor home support and the extent of tissue removal can make a combined operation unsafe. Further pregnancy, breastfeeding or unstable weight can also change timing. A staged plan is preferred when the combined physiological and recovery burden is excessive.

Who may be a candidate?

Suitable candidates are generally healthy, have realistic goals and understand the scars, trade-offs and possibility of revision. Smoking, unstable weight, uncontrolled illness, anaemia and future pregnancy plans may change timing or technique.

Recovery and safety

Recovery depends on the extent of surgery and whether procedures are combined. Swelling, bruising, temporary tightness and scars are expected to varying degrees. The plan should include thrombosis prevention, wound care, activity limits and a clear follow-up schedule. Combining more procedures is not automatically better; staging may be safer in selected patients.

Important

This page provides general information. The appropriate operation, staging and implant choice can only be determined after an examination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can several procedures be performed together?
Sometimes, but the decision depends on operating time, medical risk, recovery support and the procedures involved. A staged plan may be recommended.
Are results permanent?
Results can be long lasting, but ageing, pregnancy and weight change continue to affect skin and soft tissue. No operation can stop these processes.
